Hotstar’s Hindi remake of The Night Manager, Part 2 has three episodes. The main cast’s performances make the series better, even though the material is just okay. Aditya Roy Kapur is great as Shaan Sengupta, who goes undercover in arms dealer Shelly Rungta’s inner circle. Anil Kapoor convincingly plays the manipulative and cruel Shelly, and his charisma on screen is a joy to watch.
Tillotama Shome stands out as Lipika Saikia, a spy like Srikant Tiwari, and her chemistry with Roy Kapur’s character is engaging. Sobhita Dhulipala also gets to show her talent as Kaveri, Shelly’s girlfriend, and her performance complements Kapoor’s larger-than-life portrayal.
The direction by Sandeep Modi and Priyanka Ghosh is good, with a keen sense of pacing and tension in the scenes. However, the visual style is not unique, but they use inserts and silent reactions effectively.
Overall, the series is interesting, but it’s clear that most of the characters don’t change much, except for Shelly. Shaan stays the smooth secret agent, Lipika keeps her fun attitude, and Kaveri’s storyline isn’t very active. Also, breaking the show into two parts seems random and breaks up the flow.
Even though it has problems, The Night Manager Part 2 is an improvement from most Indian films. It has good acting, good direction, and an interesting plot, so fans of observing thrillers should check it out.
